Diverse, vibrant, and historic, Oak Park tends to be a great place for people to invite a dog into their home. Yet, no matter how wonderful a dog you’ve chosen, it’s still not uncommon for these canines to have behavioral challenges that need to be addressed.

Our Gentle and Effective Approach to Dog Training in Oak Park, IL

Marc and his team have partnered with many Oak Park dog lovers, using the “Force Free” method that has become a part of dog training culture across the United States. With a soft, nurturing form of training that is both long lasting and easy to implement, our trainers are available to make sure that your family knows exactly how to care for your dog.

About Our Pack Leader Programs

It starts with our pack leader programs. Our pack leader programs are meant to train your dog to become a welcome member of the household. Often the calls we receive include:

  • “I need help house training and crate training my puppy.”
  • “I need my old dog to welcome my new dog.”
  • “I need to teach my dog how to stop jumping on people.”
  • “I need help teaching my dog commands.”
  • “I need help walking my dog on a leash.”

These and other common concerns can all be addressed with our pack leader programs and puppy pack leader programs. Each is perfect for you and your family, as you train together with your dog so that you can solidify yourself as alpha in the pack, and take what you’ve learned home with you.

About Dog Training Programs for Oak Park, IL

Some dogs just need the right guidance in order to jump start their training. We offer two hour training sessions in our facilities for both dogs and puppies alike. These sessions are both quick and effective, making efficient use of your time.

Our Pack Leader programs are also perfect for simple fixes such as preventing your dog from lunging at others, chewing on furniture, barking at people, and more. We offer both a pack leader program and a puppy pack leader program:

  • Pack Leader Program - This program is intended for dogs over 14 weeks old who struggle with issues such as not being able to go on walks properly, or failing to respond to commands. We provide you with training tools that that help you guide your pet and learn the techniques that will help them adapt to the family. We also include a one hour follow-up appointment for the 6 months after your training should you need additional support.
  • Puppy Pack Leader Program - This program is perfect for dogs that are 8-16 weeks old and require basic training to become a part of the family. Puppies often need help sleeping through the night and respecting house rules and we are here to help guide you through that training. This private lesson is perfect for bringing your whole family along to get to know your puppy well. We also include a one hour follow-up if used within 6 months.

Both of our programs are $349 for the first dog, $249 for the next, and $149 for each additional dog. Our goal is to help orient both you and your dog for the most optimal lifestyle together.

The goal is not only to train your dog, but to train you as well. As an owner, we want the best for our dogs and want them to be a loving part of our family. With the proper guidance, our trainers guarantee that they are putting you in the right direction.

About Our Boarding School Programs

Perhaps our most popular Oak Park dog training options involve our boarding schools. With our boarding schools, you drop your dog off with us in Chicago, and we begin training on our own for one, two, or three weeks depending on the behaviors. On the last day, you come to visit your pet before taking him/her home, and we show you how to keep up with their training.

Here are the three dog boarding school options we provide depending on your and your dog’s needs:

  • Amazing Dog 7 Day Boarding School
  • Dream Dog 14 Day Boarding School
  • Celebrity Rehab 21 Day Boarding School

Our boarding school programs act like a doggy bootcamp. Though you can keep your dog with us as long as you need, the 7 day boarding school is for simple behavioral changes, while the 21 day boarding school is useful for dogs with aggression or severe anxiety.

Common Behaviors We Address in Dog Training in Oak Park

Your dog needs to properly understand the rules and methods of your family, just as you would expect from any other family member. We want to make sure that you and your dog are off to the right start when it comes to forming a strong relationship.

Some of the most common behaviors we assist with are directly related to being a good member of the family, including:

  • Aggression - Whether your dog is barking, showing teeth, growling, or biting, it is important to address aggression before it turns into a dangerous situation. For aggression, you may want to consider our Oak Park dog boot camp.
  • Anxiety - Many dogs coming from adoption or abandoned homes face anxiety when entering a new household. It is important to help treat them and make sure they feel safe. Our dog boarding school programs are a perfect option.
  • Chewing on Furniture - Dogs chew to avoid boredom, and may not yet know that some items are off limits. It is important that they learn to respect household items, which is something we can teach in dog training.
  • Jumping - Jumping is often playful, but can cause problems when the dog jumps at guests or on furniture. It’s okay for your dog to be excited, but it helps to show them how to control that particular behavior.
  • Barking - Unwanted and consistent barking can be a nuisance. We help your dog understand when it is okay to ask for things and when barking is not necessary.
  • Biting - There is aggressive biting and there is nipping biting. We can help you determine which is which and make sure that your dog is able to control those behaviors.
  • Distracted Walking - Walking on a leash is as important for pet safety as it is for having fun outdoors. We can make sure that your dog understands how to walk correctly and heel on command as needed.
  • Selective Hearing - One of the most frustrating things is when your dog fails to listen when you call his/her name or when he doesn’t respect your commands. This is also a serious safety issue. Coming when called is an important step in dog training.
  • Potty Training - Puppies need help figuring out when to ask you to go outside to use the bathroom and avoid spills. Our trainers are sure to help you out and solve this issue.
  • Sleeping Properly - Sometimes it can be difficult to get your dog or puppy to sleep through the night, but with crate training we are sure to help solve this issue.

These are the most common behaviors we witness in our Oak Park dog training sessions, but there are many more that we address as well. With the help of our expert trainers, Marc Goldberg and Patrick Farrell, we will help your dog not only adjust to life in the family - but thrive.

Our Philosophy & Goals

Our philosophy is simple. Improve the life of both dog and family. All too often, unruly dogs do not fully enjoy life because their families constantly become upset and frustrated with them. This is difficult for both family and dog.

Our mission is simple. Make both dog and family happy.

What does is take to make your dog happy? He will thrive when you give him leadership and attention.

Making the family happy is a bit more complex.

Families typically want their dog to:

  • Come when called, every time, on or off leash
  • Walk nicely on a loose leash without pulling
  • Sit until released
  • Down until released

Families also want their dogs:

  • Not to jump on people
  • Not to charge through doors
  • Not to dig in the garden
  • Not to bark and chew  inappropriately
  • Not to climb on furniture you prefer they avoid
  • Not to sniff and eat off the table and counters.
  • Not to be wild and uncontrollable
  • Not to ignore you when you want their attention
