When a child makes a mistake, the parents teach the child how to fix it. When a partner makes a mistake, the couple talks it over and tries to find a way to move forward. When a dog makes a mistake, many owners have no idea what the next steps should be.

As Deerfield dog trainers, we understand that training dogs can feel much more difficult than teaching humans. But with the methods used by industry renowned dog trainer Marc Goldberg, you’ll be able to learn effective techniques to train your dog to be that amazing member of your household.

Your Dog Wants to Be Perfect

Dogs love humans, just as we love dogs. They want their “pack” to accept them with open arms. When there are behavioral challenges, their natural instinct is to want to improve, and they simply need your guidance and care.

With our Pack Leader programs, you and your dog will come together to learn how to train your dog into the behaviors you hope for with the family. Our strategies address all common challenges, such as housetraining, pulling on leashes, jumping, responding to calls, and much more. Best of all, our training style uses:

  • No Force
  • No Punishment
  • No Clicker
  • No Treat Bribes

The idea behind this method is to use your dog’s natural instinct to make its pack happy while building a level of trust that makes it easy to learn new behaviors.

Behaviors That May Indicate Your Dog Needs Training

Dogs are loving animals that want to become a part of your family. But just as any person in the family, members must respect and cooperate properly. Help your dog adjust to family norms by addressing the fact when they need training. Our goal is to ensure both you and your dog are oriented to benefit each other’s life.

It is important and your responsibility as an owner to recognize when your dog needs training or additional assistance. You want your dog’s integration into the family to be of ease and comfort. In order to ensure this process, we recommend looking out for the following behaviors:

  • Excessive Nipping or Biting - Some nipping is normal in herding puppies, but can also be a sign of aggression. Either way, it is helpful to consider dog training to control these behaviors and reduce destruction. It is also very important to address signs of aggression as it would be regretful to let the aggressive behavior escalate into an accident.
  • Jumping - Excessive jumping can become a huge disruption and annoyance to both you and your family. Dogs who are not properly trained may think it is okay to jump on guests or cause destruction to household furniture.
  • Distracted Walking - If your dog seems to start barking at others on walks, it may be a sign for training. You don’t want your dog to be a disturbance to others and it is important to have authority over your dog on walks. It can be a bother when your dog is tugging on the leash and is unable to walk close by you.
  • Selective Hearing - It is important that our dogs understand calls and recognize their name. It takes training and reinforcement to accomplish this, but your dog will become obedient and listen to you over time.

As a dog owner, it is your responsibility to determine whether and when your dog needs training. Our goal is to make sure both you and your dog have a strong relationship in which both of you contribute to each other’s well-being.

Help to Get Started – Our Pack Leader Programs

If you simply need a starting point and a little guidance to get your dog training started, our “Pack Leader” programs are a great option. They can provide your dog with quick progress or resolve simple problems all within a two hour session.

  • Pack Leader Program - In this session, we will provide you with a slip lead leash and collar along with written instructions to continue making progress with your dog at home. Problems addressed in this session typically include jumping, chewing, pulling, and housebreaking issues.
  • Puppy Pack Leader Program - This session, as the name suggests, is for orienting puppies into your family and teaching them the proper behaviors to adjust. We will instruct you how to correctly raise a puppy as this program is intended for puppies typically 8-16 weeks old. After this program and following the instructions, you won’t have to worry about your puppy waking you or nipping at things around the house.

Both sessions include a free one hour follow-up appointment within the first 6 months of the scheduled training session. The programs are all-inclusive for $349 per dog at our location. The next dog from the same owner is $249, and each additional dog after the second is $149 for each two-hour session.

Our goal is to help prepare both you and your dog for an optimal lifestyle together and to target any issues the both of you face. We not only train your dog, but train you on how to build a strong and loving connection with your dog.

For Extra Help – Our Boarding School Programs

Some dogs may also benefit from some extra help. That’s where our boarding school programs come into play. Each program is designed to let us begin the training process for you. You come the last day, and we show you what you need to learn to keep the new behaviors going.

These boarding school programs are also a great choice for dogs with aggression or some of the more stressful dog behaviors. We offer different options within the boarding school program to cater to different dog owner and dog’s needs. These include:

  • Amazing Dog 7 Day Boarding School
  • Dream Dog 14 Day Boarding School
  • Celebrity Rehab 21 Day Boarding School

It’s a good reminder to know that dogs want to be loving, contributing members of the family. It just takes practice and training to guide them in the right direction. They need to learn the proper behaviors and techniques to accommodate the family. Online and Offsite Training

We offer our services to be done over the use of online video services such as Skype, Whatsapp, or FaceTime. This program is typically a 90 minute session for $299 that is personalized to accommodate you and your dog’s needs. Many of our clients who are incredibly busy and find the commute to our property difficult find this service incredibly beneficial and effective.

If you feel that your dog would benefit most from training at your own house, we are happy to accommodate you as long as we are informed beforehand. We can come train both you and your dog on how to build a respectful and loving relationship in the comfort of your home.

Our Philosophy & Goals

Our philosophy is simple. Improve the life of both dog and family. All too often, unruly dogs do not fully enjoy life because their families constantly become upset and frustrated with them. This is difficult for both family and dog.

Our mission is simple. Make both dog and family happy.

What does is take to make your dog happy? He will thrive when you give him leadership and attention.

Making the family happy is a bit more complex.

Families typically want their dog to:

  • Come when called, every time, on or off leash
  • Walk nicely on a loose leash without pulling
  • Sit until released
  • Down until released

Families also want their dogs:

  • Not to jump on people
  • Not to charge through doors
  • Not to dig in the garden
  • Not to bark and chew  inappropriately
  • Not to climb on furniture you prefer they avoid
  • Not to sniff and eat off the table and counters.
  • Not to be wild and uncontrollable
  • Not to ignore you when you want their attention
